Our journey with our pets

With approx. 40 years of living alongside and owning cats and dogs all my life has always been enriched with these wonderful pets.
Growing up on a farm, kittens were my best friends, sat in the hay loft, they cheered me up ( we had no internet and phones then!) and the 3 dogs followed me everywhere. My mum used to board dogs too, so it was mayhem! Oh along with chickens, ducks, geese, goats, a Sow, horses, ponies, lambs and calves ( sometimes.. my mum used to foster them) So I got roped in everywhere from the age of 9! I since as an adult had many cats and dogs.

I've  always ensured my cats and dogs enjoyed the best possible lives filled with love, cuddles, and a deep understanding of their unique personalities...so different!!

One special cat I had was a Bengal cross Siamese  who  lived to 19 years old.   As she aged, grooming became a daily ritual, especially for those arthritic areas. She was not sure of my input at first but then loved it so much she used to come running when she saw her brushes!

I've also owned a pure white ( deaf) long haired cat. Lots of Tabby cats, Black cats ( were they good luck?) And an Orange/Ginger Moggy!

The dogs, well they shed so much we had to keep on top of them, I've had a Labrador, who I grew up with, 2 x  German Shepherds, Chow Chow Cross, Collie, Rottweilers, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Mastiff Cross and many more.

My wonderful personal experiences with all of my dogs and cats and my specialist training in London with Christine Anderton in Cat Grooming and my Ofqual Qualification in grooming dogs has helped me be confident enough to open my own salon at home.
Appointments will not be back to back as I only have one or two grooming slots available a day, this reduces stress all round and provides a steady calm atmosphere.

A calming grooming experience

CAT GROOMING

I  understand that grooming can be a new or even stressful experience for some cats. That's why at Fur Seasons Cat Grooming, we prioritise their comfort and safety above all else. Even with limited availability I always allocate a generous slot for each cat although time is of the essence with cat grooming ( I believe that cats in particular are on a 'timer'!!)  as they do not like being handled for too long.

For nervous felines, and new to grooming, I follow the cat's body language and needs, they have with access to a litter tray, Which they tend to hide in, but little do they know, the lid comes off!!I have toys, and quiet resting spots, but usually they do not to play!

I introduce grooming equipment gently, using soft touches and 'licky-treats' to create positive associations. Cats do not like being restricted for long periods so I do work quickly but safely.

DOG GROOMING

I can now accommodate dogs in my salon but only for a for bath, dry, ears and nail clips. No clipping or styling at the moment.

I have a very low volume dryer ideal for the more nervous dogs and can use 'happy hoodies' this also prevents distress from air and low noise from the dryer.

Please use a veterinary grade flea treatment at home to prevent ticks and fleas.

All equipment is sterilised inbetween each dog

Soo grateful for Karen’s services. My cat bambino can be spicy at times and can be difficult to groom, he’s also an older boy with arthritis Karen did such a good job with him. He had some sore matts in his groin area and needed a general spruce up. He came out looking great and a lot more comfortable 🩷 thanks Karen xxx
