Our journey with our pets
With approx. 40 years of living alongside and owning cats and dogs all my life has always been enriched with these wonderful pets.
Growing up on a farm, kittens were my best friends, sat in the hay loft, they cheered me up ( we had no internet and phones then!) and the 3 dogs followed me everywhere. My mum used to board dogs too, so it was mayhem! Oh along with chickens, ducks, geese, goats, a Sow, horses, ponies, lambs and calves ( sometimes.. my mum used to foster them) So I got roped in everywhere from the age of 9! I since as an adult had many cats and dogs.
I've always ensured my cats and dogs enjoyed the best possible lives filled with love, cuddles, and a deep understanding of their unique personalities...so different!!
One special cat I had was a Bengal cross Siamese who lived to 19 years old. As she aged, grooming became a daily ritual, especially for those arthritic areas. She was not sure of my input at first but then loved it so much she used to come running when she saw her brushes!
I've also owned a pure white ( deaf) long haired cat. Lots of Tabby cats, Black cats ( were they good luck?) And an Orange/Ginger Moggy!
The dogs, well they shed so much we had to keep on top of them, I've had a Labrador, German Shepherds, Chow Chow Cross, Collie, Rottweilers, Staffy, Mastiff Cross....
My wonderful personal experiences with all of my cats, with specialist training in London with Christine Anderton has helped me specialise in grooming Cats. My experience in having dogs all my life plus my grooming Ofqual Level 3 has inspired me to open 'Fur Seasons Grooming'
Appointments will not be back to back as I only have one or two grooming slots available a day, this reduces stress all round.

A calming grooming experience
CAT GROOMING
I understand that grooming can be a new or even stressful experience for some cats. That's why at Fur Seasons Cat Grooming, we prioritise their comfort and safety above all else. Even with limited availability I always allocate a generous slot for each cat although time is of the essence with cat grooming as they do not like being handled for too long.
For nervous felines, and new to grooming, if you wish I can give them a break, with access to a litter tray, toys, and quiet resting spots. I introduce grooming equipment gently, using soft touches and 'licky-treats' to create positive associations. Cats do not like being restricted for long periods so I do work quickly but safely.
DOG GROOMING
Puppies, nervous or elderly dogs are groomed with care and patience, adapting the groom when needed.
As I only groom one or two a day I am able to do this.
For me, this isn't just a business; it's a passion for spending time with my favourite animals, making them feel better and also meeting and supporting the cat parents to give advice on grooming in between salon visits.
MATTING
Booking a schedule for your pet's grooming is important to prevent matting. We can discuss the timescales depending on the coat.
If matts are a problem on the first visit, we can discuss how to proceed.
I can clip out odd matts out of cats but I try not to clip the full coat off if there is no need for it it all to be taken off. I recommend 'Hygiene Clips' and 'Panel Clips' ( under the belly) for long haired cats, who can become knotted and matted if they are not groomed once a day.
Dogs on the other hand may need a clip to keep the coat more manageable for the owner, prevents matting and also cooler in the summer months, we can discuss the length and the style on drop off.
If your dog has a double coat, it does not need clipping. It can disrupt the natural hair growth and can destroy the natural texture. It can also affect the way the coat regulates their temperature in the heat, they can then be susceptible to sunburn, heatstroke and cold weather extremes. This needs a high velocity dryer and an undercoat rake. I do not offer this service, but I can bath, dry and a groom through with an undercoat rake. I do not have the facilities due to being a cat groomer and a small dog groomer.
A dog with a short flat coat does not need clipping, it does not have any benefits to keep it cool, instead it risks sunburn. These dogs can benefit with a bath, blow dry, brush and occasionally a de-shed.
If your dog has a wiry coat, this also does not need clipping, again it can damage the hair so it may grow back dull in colour and less protective to the weather. These coats need 'hand stripping' which is a process I do not offer as a service, but I can give your dog a good bath, dry and groom, so they smell much sweeter!
I am here to help, so please don't be afraid to be honest and discuss yours and your pet's needs to see if I can help.
I understand everyone has busy lives or they are unable to groom their pets regularly due to their own health reasons, so I'm here to work with you and discuss the grooming schedule for your pet's coat type.
